Valerie Theng Matherne
Valerie Theng Matherne is a named Member of Courington, Kiefer, Sommers, Matherne & Bell, L.L.C. She is a current member in good standing of the Louisiana and Mississippi Bar Associations. She was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 1998 and Mississippi Bar in 2002. She is also licensed to practice in The Supreme Court of the United States. She has concentrated her practice in the realm of civil defense litigation, including automobile, product liability, environmental, toxic tort, bad faith, insurance coverage, premises liability, construction, and employment law.
Valerie received her education from Florida State University (B.S.,1995) and Loyola University School of Law (J.D.,1998). At Loyola, she served as the Secretary of the Student Bar Association and was a founding member and Vice-President of the Loyola Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA).
Valerie is Chair of the Emeritus Board of the National Association of Minority and Women-Owned Law Firms (NAMWOLF) and former Vice Chair of NAMWOLF. She served on the NAMWOLF Board for several years. Valerie is also the founding Co-Chair of NAMWOLF’s Restaurant Retail & Hospitality Practice Area Committee and the Co-Chair of NAMWOLFs Events Committee. As Co-Chair of the Events Committee, she has been instrumental in the organization of NAMWOLF’s in-person meetings and conferences, including NAMWOLF’s widely acclaimed 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting.
Valerie was recognized as a “Mover and Shaker” in Diversity & the Bar, a publication of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA). She was featured in the American Bar Association’s Law Practice Today article, “Another Face of the Law”.
Valerie formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Additionally, she has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer recognition rating for professional excellence.
