2023: FRIENDS OF NGONG ROAD ANNUAL SPONSORSHIP OF A YOUNG GIRL Friends of Ngong Road (FoNR), a Minnesota-based 501(c)(3), and Ngong Road Children Association (NRCA), a registered Kenya NGO, operate with the shared mission of providing education and support for impoverished Nairobi children whose families have been affected by HIV/AIDS. The devastation
caused by HIV/AIDS in Kenya has left the country with approximately 1 million orphaned children and many more living with a surviving HIV+ parent. Children in this program all live in the slums of Dagoretti, Nairobi where the median household income is under two dollars per day. Approximately 50% of the children in the program are orphans and the other 50% live with a surviving HIV+ parent; 5% of children in the program are themselves HIV+. Without the opportunity provided by a high-quality education, these children would be sentenced to lives of continuing poverty and would be an economic drag on Kenyan society. Unfortunately, Kenya’s public education system is not up to the task as it is woefully underfunded and inconsistent in quality. FoNR believes that placing at-risk children in high-performing private schools for primary education and public high schools gives them the best chance of success and will have a long-term positive ripple effect on Kenya, Africa and the world. Also in February 2014, and continuing now in 2023, we began an annual sponsorship of a child with the ANGEL’S IN NEED organization whose mission is to serve children with special needs and their families both locally and abroad. Our goal is to enrich the lives of these children and families by supporting already existing programs and organizations devoted to our cause as well as aiding in the
development, implementation and financial support of programs where they are non-existent, all in an attempt to provide the children with opportunity and a sense of community in which to blossom. Angel’s in Need, Inc. operates on a strictly volunteer basis. We are a 100% volunteer, 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. DECEMBER 2023: MARINE CORPS RESERVE TOYS FOR TOTS
The basic mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas. The primary goal is, through the gift of a new toy, help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America’s less fortunate children.
NOVEMBER 2023: HUMANE SOCIETY OF LOUISIANA
The Humane Society of Louisiana is a private animal protection charity founded in New Orleans in 1988. As leaders in the fight against cruelty to animals, we work to prevent animal abuse and neglect in all its forms.
Our diverse programs are intended not only touch the lives of individual animals but to transform the state into a more compassionate place. We receive no government funding, and we rely solely on private contributions for support.
The Humane Society of Louisiana is the only local animal protection charity that speaks out for all animals of all kinds. We work to start and/or expand services and programs to help them.
This is vitally important work, because 50 % of our state’s parishes are without any kind of shelter or animal care services. When an animal is hit by a car most places in Louisiana, there is no agency to respond. When an animal is being neglected or abused, there is no one to help if the police don’t take action – and they often don’t. There are virtually no programs to help wildlife or other animals in need.
We’re working to change all that by making Louisiana’s communities kinder and more humane for everyone. Please join us as a donor, supporter or volunteer and help us make a profound difference for animals in need.
OCTOBER 2023: FOSTER LOVE (TOGETHER WE RISE) - SWEET CASES
Foster Love is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization comprised of motivated young adults and former foster youth. Our vision is to improve the lives of children in foster care, who often find themselves forgotten and neglected by the public. We collaborate with individuals, companies, and community partners to bring resources to foster youth and use service-learning activities to educate volunteers on issues surrounding the foster care system.
Foster Love works with hundreds of foster agencies, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to bring our programs to foster youth across the nation. Our foundation has allowed us to provide thousands of foster youth across the country with new bicycles, college supplies, and sweet cases so that children do not have to travel from home to home with their belongings in a trash bag.
SEPTEMBER 2023: DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF GREATER NEW ORLEANS
Members of DSAGNO work with community leaders and government agencies to educate the community toward a greater understanding of the issues facing individuals with Down syndrome. DSAGNO does this by acting as a clearinghouse for current information, advocating in our schools for inclusion programs, working with other agencies to develop programs that benefit individuals with Down syndrome and sponsoring events that will raise awareness about Down syndrome and the ability of individuals with Down syndrome.
AUGUST 2023: NEW ORLEANS MARTINET LEGAL FOUNDATION, INC. - ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP GALA
The Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Inc. (“Martinet”) and the New Orleans Martinet Legal Foundation, Inc., the 501(c)(3) non-profit branch of Martinet (the “Foundation”), will host its Annual Scholarship Gala and Jazz Brunch, (“Gala”) at the Hyatt Regency, 100 Loyola, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70013 on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 am.
Each year, Martinet and the Foundation host the Gala to raise funds to provide scholarships to deserving undergraduate and law students and to fund Martinet’s community service efforts that effectuate change and benefit our community-at-large. Last year, through the generosity of our donors and despite significant financial constraints, we were able to provide $20,000 in scholarships to local undergraduate and law students with over 350 people in attendance.
JULY 2023: FOOD FROM THE BAR CAMPAIGN - SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK
The Association for Women Attorneys is excited to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank on the 12th annual Food from the Bar campaign. Food from the Bar is the legal community’s response to child hunger across the country, in which local firms raise funds, donate food, and volunteer at local food banks.
Second Harvest serves communities across 23 parishes in South Louisiana. Each and every day, our neighbors struggle to access the healthy, nutritious food they need for themselves and their families. Working with our local, community-based partners across our service area, Second Harvest Food Bank helps ensure the basic food needs of families and individuals in our community are met.
JUNE 2023: A. C. LEWIS YMCA
The A. C. Lewis YMCA is a mid-city branch that has been serving the community since 1963. The Y is more than a gym. We are an inclusive organization inspiring people of all ages, abilities and incomes to live healthier in spirit, mind and body. At the Y, we don’t just provide programs and services, we transform lives.
The Y is a nonprofit, community service organization with a focus on strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y nurtures the potential of every youth and teen, improves the nation’s health and well-being and provides opportunities to give back and support neighbors. The Y makes sure that everyone, regardless of age, income, religion or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
MAY 2023: OGDEN MUSEUM OF SOUTHERN ART - SUMMER CAMPS
Ogden Museum’s Summer Camps fill a great need in the New Orleans area, for both children and their working parents. Unfortunately, many families lack the means to enroll their children. Last year, Ogden Museum provided full scholarships to 18 campers, creating a unique space where children from neighborhoods throughout New Orleans and from different socio-economic backgrounds meet, make new friends and explore Southern art and artists.
Ogden Museum’s small, specialized camps are guided by professional artists and Museum educators in a unique museum setting. Younger campers explore fine arts techniques such as drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed-media, while older campers focus on applied arts such as fashion design and photography. Each session culminates in a final show or gallery exhibition celebrated with family and friends. Additionally, members of our award winning Teen Intern program act as counselors for our summer camps, assisting campers with their projects, while at the same time gaining critical thinking and leadership skills and valuable resume-building experiences.
APRIL 2023: SUSAN G. KOMEN BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we’ve invested more than $3.3 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Our efforts helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 40 percent between 1989-2016 and we won’t stop until our promise is fulfilled.
Our mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.
MARCH 2023: WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT
Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began in 2003 as a small, grassroots effort providing simple care and comfort items to the hospital bedsides of the first wounded service members returning home from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. As their post-service needs evolved, so have our programs and services. Today, through our direct programs in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care, along with our advocacy efforts, we improve the lives of millions of warriors and their families.
This effort requires the passion and commitment of friends, supporters, and like-minded organizations that enable us to fulfill our mission. With their collaboration and support, we strive to ensure that when those who serve come home, they’re afforded every opportunity to be as successful as a civilian as they were in the military.
FEBRUARY 2023: BARN SANCTUARY
Barn Sanctuary is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused and neglected farmed animals by creating a safe haven where these individuals can recover, thrive, and serve as an example for why we strive to lead society towards a plant-based lifestyle.
Barn Sanctuary provides a loving home specifically for farmed animals because farmed animals are the most abused and neglected group of animals in the world. Barn Sanctuary is home to over 100 rescued farmed animals including: cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, sheep, and goats. Every rescue at Barn Sanctuary is treated as an individual, deserving of empathy and respect.
JANUARY 2023: LOUISIANA CENTER FOR CHILDREN'S RIGHTS - CELEBRATION FOR CHILDREN'S RIGHTS
Every child can reach their potential, but children of color and poor children are routinely denied the resources and opportunities they need to do so. Instead, many are funneled into a justice system that only makes it harder to succeed.
The Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights is a nonprofit law office that stands with kids in the justice system no matter what. We provide holistic legal defense to address children’s needs both inside and outside the courtroom. And we tackle the systemic issues that criminalize mostly poor, Black youth in the first place. Our goal is to keep kids out of a harmful system so that they can thrive where they belong: at home, at school, and in our communities.
Using direct representation and advocacy, the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights fights to keep children out of the legal system so that they can thrive in their homes and communities. We envision a Louisiana where every child, no matter their race or class, is free to be a kid and supported in becoming a healthy adult.
Through this event, we celebrate the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights’ successes and come together to make Louisiana a better place for all children.
