Nicholas J. Smeltz is a litigation associate primarily handling insurance defense and toxic tort matters. After graduating cum laude from Spring Hill College with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science, Mr. Smeltz returned to New Orleans to attend Loyola University New Orleans College of Law. While in law school, Mr. Smeltz was a member of Loyola’s Journal of Public Interest Law, where he drafted a comment on the implications of technology as it pertains to Fourth Amendment search and seizure issues.
Mr. Smeltz received Law Excellence Awards for scoring the highest grade in his Constitutional Law, Land Use, Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure, and Creditor’s Rights and Bankruptcy classes in law school.
During his senior year of law school, Mr. Smeltz participated in the Prosecution Clinic where he worked at the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office. Mr. Smeltz was also involved in the Entrepreneurship Programwhere he assisted a local startup company in developing a licensing agreement for their products.
In May of 2019, Mr. Smeltz obtained his Juris Doctor, graduating cum laude from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in October 2019.
2019 Civil Law Award – Presented by the Louisiana Bar Association to the student attaining the highest grade in Civil Law studies.
ABI Medal of Excellence – Awarded by the American Bankruptcy Institute to the student for scoring the highest grade in Bankruptcy.
Certificate of Recognition: Section of State and Local Government Law – Presented by the American Bar Association for excellence in courses of Land Use and Local Government Law.
